The Met Cloisters

Recommended by Aubrey Bergeron

in response to Kara

Looking for off the beaten path day trip recommendations for NYC. I grew up going often and have done most of the major sights; my husband’s been a few times and has covered the big stuff too. Our girls (9 and 12) came once, two years ago and we did the Natural History Museum, Central Park, Balthazar, and John’s Pizza. We’re considering the Met but aren’t sold on it. Looking for recs that feel a bit more unique/local rather than the standard tourist spots bonus points for family-friendly.

If you’re thinking about the Met, but want something more lowkey try the Met Cloisters. Small enough that you can see all the art on display and with beautiful gardens too. Take a walk through nearby Fort Tyron park for an awesome view of the Hudson River.
